Important Symptoms Of Migraine Headaches

Pain located on one side, sensitivity to light and sound are just some symptoms of migraine headache. Migraine headaches affect all areas of your brain and are very painful. Commonly it concentrates on specific areas such as behind the eyes, ear or around the temples. You can get a migraine in one side of your brain or both. Those that have really bad migraines are also afflicted with nausea and vomiting. They also may be very sensitive to light and sunshine. Migraines can last for many days and the pain associated with a migraine tends to be much more intense and severe then just a regular tension headache.

It is also suspected that there may be chemical changes that are responsible for migraines. Chemical messages sent in the brain are somehow interrupted or disrupted and the migraine pain is from this disruption. However, because migraines tend to be hereditary it is though that genetics play a large part in migraine headaches. It is thought that specific genetics result in individuals that react differently to blood pressure and other bodily functions which cause stress and in turn cause migraines.

It is unknown what causes migraine headaches though some doctors have a few suspicions. There is currently a lot of research conducted trying to better understand migraines. It is possible that migraines begin because the blood flow to the brain changes so the blood vessels expand or shrink, causing pain in the head and muscles around the blood vessels. It is thought that the migraine is from the blood pushing on the surface wall of the head. Ignorance is bliss they say. Ive had a migraine for a week, whats the best migraine relief?

  • good_morning_sunshine asked on Wed, 03 Oct, 2007
I have had surgery on my jaw to correct TMJ, so my jaw is supposed to be in good shape but the left side has been bothering me quite a bit recently, and im goin to the dr next week about it. I also have neck pain along with my migraines and Im hoping its all connected to my jaw....but i need some relief until i go to the dr. I have tried: excedrin migraine, vicks chest rub on my forehead, cool towel, quiet dark room, sleeping etc. But i just wake up with a migraine. Ive had one for about a week now. Well i was just at my general dr last week and she checked my sinuses and all was fine. Also all my blood work was perfect, so Im assuming it is all connected to my jaw. If I go gt help now, won't they just give be rx meds and send me on my way?
  • G.V. replied on Wed, 03 Oct, 2007
Prescription drugs like Imitrex or Maxalt.

i wouldnt wait for a week id be calling the dr now. thats not good you need medical treatment

If you have repeatedly taken excedrin migraine, you may be causing something called rebound headaches. Try a warm bath and put warm moist heat on the muscles of the cheeks by the ears, under the jaw and behind the neck and base of the skull. If it is related to these muscles, the warm heat will force the muscles to relax and help. Plus, when you are in pain, you tend to tense those muscles and make a bad migraine worse. warm moist heat: one of those heating pads you throw in the microwave with the azuki beans or rice in them will emit that kindof heat; or just use a heating pad; or one of those rubber water containers you can put really warm water in. Consider going to urgent care or the ER if you have insurance. Your copay might be 100 bucks (or more) but it might be worth it, right? They'll give you a shot and you'll be allright. Oh and she's right about the orgasm. Good luck, I feel for you.

The drugs have made liver fire excessive and it made the Gall Bladder Meridian excessive; your pain is along its' pathway. There is no medicine for H/A OR MIGRAINE. Not only these but for almost all painful diseases. Hence they become chronic. Acidity, WORRY, excessive wind, cold , heat, sour food and sinusitis, constipation, intestinal inflammation; drugs, Blockage in the flow of Vital Energy are their causes. None of them can be treated with medicine. Our 100% success in treating migraine &H/A confirms it. Pain killers don't treat the pain but we loose the sense of pain for some time; in that duration our body itself treats sometime and credit goes to meds. Acupuncture is the best treatment. I can treat it with naturopathy and YOG, but how can you manage pl see. Avoid drugs & late sleeping if possible; worry, spicy foods, sour fruits, stale bakery foods and alcohole. Sweet foods, COCOANUT WATER,sweet fruits, milk, rice, SPROUTS, SALADS and good sleep will help you. But you try one herbal remedy- two drops of drumstick leaves' juice in opposite nostril if one side pains and both nostrils if full H/A will give you rescue. Betel leaf helps but it is very strong. If it is acute pl search a painful point 3-6 mm behind your thumb nail and press it, H/A will disappear within 30 seconds. Go to urgent care now and get this checked out. It could be a sinus infection and not a migraine. If it is a migraine they can give you medicine specifically for migraines to get rid of it. No matter what you need to go to urgent care as a week is to long to let a headache of any kind go unchecked and untreated. Get off the computer and go get it checked out tonight.

if you wake up with it every morning there could be a number of things. you might "grind "your teeth, and a simple mouthpiece would help. you could also be allergic to something in your bedroom, dust mites, pillows, sheets, plants, a pet that sleeps in your room, mold etc. try and antihistamine and an air purifier. speak to your dr about migraine abortive medications (imitrex zomig maxalt etc.) they work much better than anything over the counter. if you are diagnosed with true migraines and suffer from them chronically there are also preventatives you can take on a routine basis to help keep them at bay (i have been on these for 9 years).
